TGV Hydro Limited is a trading subsidiary of The Green Valleys, which is a community interest company founded by residents of the Brecon Beacons National Park. As a community interest company we have members, not shareholders. Membership is open to individuals and organisations.
The Green Valley’s mission is to reduce carbon emissions, generate green electricity and create long term revenue for our communities through micro-hydro generation. This philosophy led to our role in the design and installation of high head micro-hydro electric systems. We operate as a not-for-profit company, with all profits being reinvested into developing low carbon initiatives and environmental improvements for the benefit of local communities.
Private energy firms do not make community ownership and environmental enhancement their principle objective. Many firms offer ‘free electricity’ to landowners with the developer keeping all the generating and export tariffs. Only a social enterprise, like TGV, a not-for-profit organisation can ensure the financial benefits of Feed-In-Tariffs is used to build financially sustainable communities and not distributed to share holders.
We are proud to be considered an ‘enabling organisation’ – providing support to a wide range of communities in their response to climate change. We aim to remove the barriers faced by communities and individuals in their pursuit of hydro-electricity, in order to help build sustainable rural economies.
TGV also provide support on other community engagement activities to reduce carbon emissions, including support for community management of local woodland and the ability to share the experience of a range of carbon reducing initiatives with other communities.
